Striking yet clean-lined

The range authored by designers Markus Michalski and Michael Schmidt is excitingly purist in a very new-age way and has been engineered to perfection. A collection as visually restrained as it is compellingly haptic has now been honoured with the “Best of Best” accolade in the “Product” category by the expert jury presiding over an international architecture and design competition entitled “ICONIC AWARDS 2022: Innovative Architecture”. The international prize is awarded annually for architecture and interior design of an outstanding and all-embracing kind as well as for innovative products by Germany’s Design Council.

The FSB 1289 product collection was born of a will to create up-to-the-minute design endowed with a degree of formal cohesion enabling it to be combined with the existing product portfolio whilst nevertheless being surprising in some ways. “We were intent on coming up with a design that is not loud and yet contains many points of fine detail that become apparent either upon closer inspection or when the handle is taken hold of and operated”, designer Markus Michalski explains. What you first see when beholding the handle is its lean, pared-down shape, but upon taking hold of it with your hand, it is found to be satisfyingly bulky at the back, a fact most conducive to ergonomic operation. The stylistic feat that makes Michalski and Schmidt’s handle so exciting is the way it succeeds in being restrained and eminently innovative in equal measure.

The combination of striking and clean-lined has now also helped this product collection to win over the expert jury for the “ICONIC AWARDS 2022: Innovative Architecture”:

The high quality door opener FSB 1289 convinces with a wonderfully clear design reduced to the essentials, one that combines perfectly proportioned aesthetics, ergonomics and well thought-out functionality at a high design and handicraft level. The “ICONIC AWARDS: Innovative Architecture” competition run by Germany’s Design Council showcases visionary buildings, innovative products and sustainable communication from all spheres of the architecture, construction and real-estate sectors as well as from manufacturing industry. Entries are awarded the labels “Selection” and “Winner” in five categories plus one overarching category. Outstanding entries receive a special “Best of Best” award.
