When we set our minds to creating a new handle collection together with the Frankfurt architect Professor Christoph Mäckler, our initial deliberations focused on the choice of material rather than on design.

We even ran a much acclaimed joint workshop on this subject at the Dortmund “U” building.

Christoph Mäckler loves natural materials. Brass was his first choice, though in a raw, polished finish as opposed to the lacquered variant generally found on the market.
We then found it somewhat difficult to convince our partner that his new design should also be offered in aluminium and stainless steel to complete our range.

Once the question of materials had been resolved, Christoph Mäckler leafed through many old catalogues and eventually settled on a basic form that had already delighted 19th-century users of doors. Again and again, Christoph Mäckler modified this basic, well-known design. His design proposal is a compact handle family that he wanted to see combined with flat backplanes and roses with visible fixing.
