Thus we happened to meet Helmut Jahn, whose architecture finds its expression in clear forms, combining aesthetics with technology. Via Munich, Berlin and Chicago, we finally reached the office of Jahn/Lykouria Design in London.
Here, Helmut Jahn works on interdisciplinary design projects together with Yorgo Lykouria. Jahn and Lykouria draw their inspiration from the reality of a quickly changing world. They approach each new project without preconceived ideas, as if seeing something for the first time. In this way, they succeed again and again in discovering new forms – and perhaps even something akin to a new poetic expression for the commonplace artefacts in our daily lives.
According to their thinking, the classic door handle made from a bent tube was designed to exploit manufacturing processes in line with modern design principles.
For Jahn/Lykouria, this principle no longer fits our time, since we have now become used to the idea that machines are here to serve us and not vice-versa. With this outlook, it didn’t take long to decide that a new language of form should be developed, based on the innovative FSB material AluGrey. The outcome is a remarkable, intelligent new product family, now set to prove its worth in practice.
